A French pharmacist discovered benzaldehyde for the first time in 1803. Almonds contain a dangerous substance called benzaldehyde, which occurs naturally, and a benzaldehyde solution can be found in the vicinity of honeycombed structures. As a flavouring agent, benzaldehyde is found in cigarette pods and other electronic cigarettes. When it comes to cool mint flavours, benzaldehyde is also used.

Malachite green dye & dimethylaniline both include benedrylaldehyde. In the manufacture of acridine dyes, it serves as a precursor.
