EDT vs EST – Difference and Comparison

What is EST?

EST stands for Eastern Standard Time. The persons who use Eastern Standard Time are 5 hours before the Coordinated Universal Time (UTC-5:00).

Eastern Standard Time is used to indicate the time zone. EST is used in the same region but in different fragments of the year.

This time is especially used in North America but specifically in Canada and America. There are some other time zones named:

  1. Central-time zone
  2. Mountain-time zone
  3. Pacific-time zone

All of these are fragments of the Eastern time zone. Eastern Time zone starts from the Ohio valley eastward and ends at the Atlantic coast.

The states, which cover the time zone are known as the East coast. The states are as follows:

EST is the procedure of time that is used in during winter and fall. This procedure starts on the first Sunday of November and ends in March, sometimes ending on the second Sunday of March.

What is EDT?

EDT stands for Eastern Daylight Time. It is used in Canada because it is extremely Eastern in most time zone, it is also used in North America.

EDT can be used from the second Sunday of March to the first Sunday of November.

To covert EDT to other time zones there are some ways which are given below:

  1. As we can see to change EDT to CDT, we will minus one hour.
  2. If we want to convert EDT to MSDT we will minus two hours.

Indian standard time is 10 hours and 30 minutes ahead of Eastern Standard Time. 8:30 am in Indian standard time is 10:00 pm in Eastern Standard Time.

Comparison Between EDT and EST

The Eastern Standard time zone works in North American areas mostly in the winter and autumn seasons whereas the eastern daylight time zone is widely used in the spring and summer seasons. Both these time zones are known to be against coordinated universal time.

There is a difference of 1 hour between both time zones. EDT begins in summer and concludes just before winter.
