What is 9N Ford Tractor ?

The 9N Ford Tractor has been a first in many things, with its variable front track proving to be quite a valuable crop cultivation. Easier crop cultivation has been made possible with the help of front half-axles that can slide in and out. And can also be pinned in place—also having a variable rear track, with the reversible offset of the rear wheel design.

In a fashion unique to Ford, the exhaust underneath the Tractor has been routed similarly to an automobile. At the Tractor’s behind, a PTO is placed, by which A PTO driving the three-point or towed implements are made more accessible. The Ferguson system has been quite invaluable to fix problems occurring in the previous Ford son tractors, such as not limited to tilting and flipping over if the plow hits an obstruction on its path.

Another thing that only the 9N Ford Tractors were the first in was that the US Navy used these tractors onboard their aircraft’s carrier for towing misplaced aircraft and had earned a nickname, the “Moto Tug.” The 9N original engines used to be powered by distillate fuels. What is 8N Ford tractor?

The 8N Ford tractor has had plenty of changes from the 9N Ford tractor, including PTO increase. In addition to that, the drawbar horsepower is also expanded.These changes were deliberately done in order to help the tractor adjust to various soil types. Another reason was that Harry Ferguson has the license over the mechanism of the hydraulic system. Thus, the 8N Ford tractor was able to evade possible lawsuits. Still, the problem occurred when it malfunctioned in case of some tools.

The draft control went through the improved position of controlling. As a result, the implement was forced to stay unchanged in a position. But, the drawback of these Tractor series was that they had no live PTO. 

As a result, some other parts, like the brush cutters had no means for saving the internal energy thereby leading to further problems. Thus, as the driver disengaged the clutch, the Tractor would abruptly move forward. But there was a plausible reason, for it could override the coupler in this model. The good thing was that a new change in 1950 was made, with a Proof meter (combined speedometer, tachometer, hour meter) located on the lower right portion of the dash.

Difference Between 9N and 8N

1. The louvered board, a series of overlapping, sloping panels present in an opening, arranged as to admit air but to exclude rain or cut off visibility from the outside, is present in 8N Ford tractors. But, for 9N Ford Tractors, the air ventilating factors, louvered boards, are absent.
2. The 9N Ford Tractors have plates with the last number of the Tractor’s founding year (1939) with the product character given to each Tractor (N). But, for “8N” the plates cannot be written with the founding year (1947) number due to 2N and 8N having the same plate number. So, to know the exact tractor, a tractor’s model list is required.
3. 9N Ford Tractors have foot pegs present, while the 8N Ford tractors have running boards/foot pegs depending on the model.
4. 9N Ford tractors have a front mount distributor, while the 8N Ford tractors could have a front or side mount distributor.
5. There is a severe absence of these in 9N Ford tractors for position control and live hydraulics, but the 8N Ford tractors have both above present.
