Usually, ROM contains the programmed instructions required for a computer to boot.
This memory storage is helpful for storing data for extended periods of time. Compared to RAM, ROM takes a bit longer to load. ROM is necessary for a system because it contains instructions to boot a computer. Hard drives are the most common examples of ROM.
